Right, let’s get started. I’ve got a few images that I’ve used as a sort of a PC mood board and they’ve thrown up the idea of a warrior, maybe a monster hunter, who has an affiliation with birds, and maybe uses his brains to overcome monsters rather than just his axe.
Looking at the stats I’ve put Wits as my highest score – reflecting the brains Vs brawn concept, with Shadow and Iron as 2 and Edge and Heart at 1. I’d have preferred Heart higher but that can come later.
For my assets, I have chosen RAVEN as a companion, and AUGUR as a ritual, some rare magic. I’ve also taken SLAYER. Lets fold some texture for that from our Truths.
The corvids followed the Ironsworn across the sea, when the plague swept all before it. Untouched amongst the birds, they were thought possessed by the Old Gods. Those few that can still talk to them are chosen as Scourges, slayers of monsters … Whether they like it or not. Blessed by the Old Gods is Blessed by the Old Gods!
The Chronicles of Ingar the Wise
What about some BONDS and VOWS now?
Our hero’s BACKGROUND VOW is a simple one – he has vowed to serve the people of this small community for a year and a day as their Scourge, in return for them opening their doors to a stranger on a winter’s night. What is the community? Let’s Ask the Oracle?
{77,33} – The community is called Bleakfrost – {65} – it is in the Hinterlands, located near a {29,99} ancient woods. Recently, {59} a dark secret has been revealed {42} – a hunting party has killed a young wolf, and now its mother seeks revenge on the community.
Our hero now has some bonds;
… with Griff, the old forager who offers him shelter under his roof (a rarity in these suspicious times) so that he can tell tales of his son, lost years ago to the monsters in the woods.
… with Chandra, the leader of the village who has sustained a crippling wound and whose immobility and constant demands are draining on all those around her.
… the village of Bleakfrost, who took him in when no-one else would open their stockade to a stranger.
Finally, we need an inciting incident and, of course, a name! Rolling on the name tables, we get {45} Zahn or Abram. Let’s go Zahn. For the inciting incident, I will pick up straight from one of the Quest Starter from Our Truths (Defense)
Bleakfrost is unable, or unwilling, to defend itself against an imminent threat. Why? What peril do they face? What will you do to protect them?
We always send a messenger at this time of year, off into the snow to White Ridge, the nearest other settlement. They usually return with news, a gift and some rumours. This time only their horse returned, with a bloody gash in its side. Hjorn the Foul has returned, a wolf of rotten temper and worse habits – thank the Gods Old and New we have a Scourge with us…
